Budhanilkantha Temple is located in Budhanilkantha, Nepal. It is also known as the Narayanthan Temple. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temples main statue of Budhanilkantha is considered as the largest stone raving in Nepal. The statue stands 5 meters tall and 13 meters long. In Dwapar Yug, a King named Surya Ketu was a religious king. He always ate his meal after worshipping Kashi and Badri. He told Lord Vishnu and Shiva that he was old and was unable to go to worship and requested them to come in his state in the same statue. And, they blessed the King. Similarly in Kali Yug, Kathmandu was covered by water as per the mythology. King Manjushree cut off the water by cutting a hill in Chobar. The lands of valley became cultivable after water dried. An old farmer was plowing the field and got stuck on a figure, which resulted in blood on the ground. This incident recovered the lost identity of Budhanilkantha. The name of Budhanilkantha was kept after the name of that farmer. Budha is a Nepali word which means old and the name of the farmer was NIlkantha. Therefore, Budhanilkantha means old Nilkantha.
